beer! glorious beer!
i know i’m an FBC employee but i have to sing the praises of what i discovered at Price Club yesterday:
yes, that’s a samuel smiths, a brooklyn lager, rogue porter, liberty ale and more – purchased right here in kobe!
and there’s more! how did a place that stocked so many fantastic beers go undetected by me for so long!?! too bad i’m breastfeeding so really shouldn’t be drinking at all…but my mom said they used to tell breastfeeding women to drink a glass of beer a day – sounds good to me!!
That myth has been long de-bunked. It actually originated from a beer company in the 1800’s! If you drink, you shouldn’t breastfeed for at least 2 hours, or until the alcohol leaves your bloodstream, because it can be very taxing on the baby’s tiny liver. They say that alcohol isn’t stored in your breatmilk, so “pumping and dumping” doesn’t do anything – if it’s in your blood it’s in the milk.
I read a lot of suggestions that you should pump before you consume alcohol, so that if your baby gets hungry before it has left your bloodstream you can feed her “clean” milk.
so i read – bummer eh!?! they say the positive effects are just as present in non-alcoholic beer cause it’s in the barley and hops…boring…
ps – to those who don’t know me well – i would never risk my daughter’s health for a beer – just excited to find beers i like here in japan – don’t worry!
Hey Lady,
Gotta love a chick who appreciates a good brew. Thanks for the tip about Price Club. Although I’ll have to wait till I’m out in Kobe for some reason.
I was beside myself with joy recently when I discovered that Yamaya (Shinsaibashi, Namba…) stocks Japanese microbrew. I can’t decide which I love more:
Ginga Kogen: http://www.gingakogenbeer.com/english/index.html
or
Hitachino: http://www.kodawari.cc/engpage/kodawari/html/hitachino.htm
Yay!
Hi Heather. Just learned about the blog and really like it! Toru and I are going to try to have me get pregnant this winter (with my being 41, though, we’re not sure it will happen, but we’re going to try), so it’s a really great resource for me to find this!
And Bijou is just tooo adorable.
Best,
Tracy
