tummy tub
last night we tried the tummy tub! developed in the netherlands and passed along to us by a dutch friend, karolien (thank you!) – it looks like a clear bucket but has design features that make it much safer and more comfortable than trying it with your own diy bucket.
the theory is that the baby will feel the comfort of being in the womb inside this warm, small, wet space. when we put bijou in she wiggled around a lot and cried a bit and i thought maybe it wasn’t for her but within a minute she calmed down and was even smiling! it relaxed her so much she ended up pooping in it! hope that won’t be a habit but we’ll definitely try it again!
She definitely looks like she likes it. :o) It’s amazing how much she smiles for such a little baby! Mommy and Daddy are obviously doing a good job to have such a happy baby. Much live! xoxoxoxo
Hello there
Hope you are all doing well – looks like it!
Sending you lots of love
thanks a. heidi! we just only post the smiling ones – she cries and looks really uncomfortable plenty also! haha. i do love when she smiles though – even though all the books say the smiles now aren’t “real social smiles” like we do. if these smiles make me so happy i can hardly wait for a “real” one!
thank you for the love always lorraine!
So cute!!
I like the tummy tub idea. I was always fascinated by the Hawaiian idea of giving birth in water. I’ve heard of people doing that at home in their tubs with a midwife. Not sure if I could handle the non-hospital route though. Do you know if there are midwives here in Japan? Or doulas?
Heather
Congratulations! She is adorable!! Really what a beautiful baby. That tummy tub looks interesting. Is everything going well with you and Bijou (cool name)?
We are working out the gas issue but luckily Ronan sleeps really well at night so I’m not going stark raving mad with sleep deprivation.
Hope to talk to you soon,
Danielle
hey helen –
there are definitely midwives (助産婦 josanpu) – probably some at any clinic you go to and there are many that come to people’s homes for home births! i don’t know even what a doula is called in japanese and haven’t really heard of that here but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. mostly i just hear of midwives helping with births. i bet in tokyo you could find an english speaking doula though.
and i think you could find someone to do a water birth for you here too!
can’t wait to meet the little hayashis!
danielle!
congrats to you too! yes – everything is going alright – we don’t sleep through the night (i think 3 wakings is our best yet) but hopefully that will come soon..
glad things are good with ronan – enjoy it!
