come on feel the noise
26 weeks. they say that she can hear me and the person who i’m talking to now. a friend told me how their baby actually jumped in the belly when his wife dropped a pan once so they definitely can hear. i have been to one show since her hearing developed with no problem (other than standing for so long) and there is another one I REALLY want to go to – no, i must go to – soon.
problem – this is the most ridiculously / pointlessly loud venue in the history of venus. doesn’t matter what band – doesn’t matter what genre. if i don’t wear earplugs it sounds like a vacuum is on in my ears by the end of the night.
here’s the scoop – this is the band that i first saw isseki’s band play with. the drummer had a wicked illness/disease and has beenĀ of commission for over a year so they haven’t been playing. the bassist in the band runs the venue and the venue is set to close this year. so there are all these factors making it a really important show!!
but – being the worrier that i am – i’m still a bit nervous.
have you heard/read anything about this? when i search online i can find people who say “don’t” and people who say “don’t make a habit of it but don’t sweat it one night” – there doesn’t seem to be any majority consensus…decisions decisions. let me know what you think!
I read this article:
http://www.whattoexpect.com/index.aspx?puid=ef415daa-cc80-4684-b6f0-fea4eb0ae151&p=1
That said it’s ok unless the noise is at very high decible levels (high enough to affect your own hearing). That’s a tough question. It seems that the concensus is that it probably won’t hurt anything, and that plenty of people have done it without problems. I guess you just have to ask yourself if it’s worth the risk.
Maybe you could go, but not stay for the whole show?
Try this experiment: fill a bathtub full of water, pinch your nose, close your eyes and dunk yourself while Isseki plays really, really loud music in the bathroom. Does it hurt your ears? Sounds primitive but I think it would be similar to what a baby in utero would experience. I say GO GO GO!! Enjoy your beautiful self and expose your baby to the wonders of live music. It’ll make you both happy, I promise!
(You probably don’t have a bathtub but, you get the idea)
thanks for the good advice auntie heidi!
and what a great experiment idea, aunt wendy! (though the neighbors…)
i went to one of isseki’s shows tonight and i’ve decided i’m gonna go. if my ears hurt really bad or she seems startled in my belly – then i’ll give it a break or try to go to a less noisy part of the venue. oh yeah, and i’m gonna wear a belly cover under my shirt that will hopefully give another barrier to the sound.
ps – of course we have a bathtub! there is no japanese culture without the bath…silly american me doesn’t use it 1/2 as much as i should according to most japanese!
