missing women

in the news today…the vancouver pig farm serial killer is convicted on 6 counts of 2nd degree murder. he is suspected in the deaths of 27 women from vancouver’s troubled east side. when i tried to find information online about this neighborhood, nothing seems to have changed much recently except for the gentrification that is taking place in preparation for the 2010 olympics. i wondered if women are still disappearing.Pickton has been in custody since 2002 – have the rates gone drastically up? down? no change. it’s heartening that people are taking notice now and you can find tons of sites dedicated to the women pickton is suspected of killing – but are the new cases going unnoticed once again in lieu of the grotesqueness of this story? are the authorities paying any more attention to what is happening now than they were to the women disappearing from 1995 to 2001?

i hope someone is paying attention – it’s heartbreaking to read those women’s stories. (http://www.missingpeople.net/)
