        nightly action. highlights:

sunday in kimono at a wedding decided, planned & executed within 2 months. rolling eyes at isseki as a friend of the grooms father makes a speech filled with hakujin (white people) and gaijin (foreigners) even though he’s speaking of encounters with americans in hawaii – are we still foreigners there? couldn’t amerikajin suffice? giggling with my sisters-in-law who i still barely know. wishing i could remember all those related to the family business’ name.

tuesday shaking off my self-consciousness to rock out front & center at 5:30pm (!?!) when the rest of the crowd (consisting of about 5pp plus the other bands at that hour) was lined around the perimeter. rave reviews from all in the audience -including the band they opened for (the reason isseki asked for a spot at that show), matt pond pa, and the genuine niceness of all people there would have been enough for a good night but matt pond pa’s show…see them – listen to them – have a chat with them…brilliant. dan (drums) emerging from the stage with blood-spattered pants but everyone all smiles.

wednesday, 10:30pm, still at the office with only one 30min lunch break since 9am – finally bursting into tears with 2 colleagues who i would spend the following evening with laughing, drinking, and eating persian food overlooking the luminarie lights. they must think i’m schizophrenic. note to self: must manage stress better.

friday at the scene of the crime – soshuen – where i was proposed to and married off – for my women’s group’s holiday party. worst karaoke selection ever but it still turned out fabulous. if you ever get a chance to party with 1) people from the netherlands and/or 2) americans employed by the department of state – preferably both: do it.

saturday witnessing an american in buddhist monk garb on stage singing in alternate japanese/english about sex in the toilet on the train. asobou! drinks & chatting with recently unmet friends & acquaintances and dancing.

sunday knackered. bowing out of a much anticipated show in lieu of quiet time at home – not regretting it for a second.

this morning opens to “i don’t like mondays” on the record player and a trip to the doc to receive the inconclusive, but nonetheless good news of a clean bill of healths.

looking forward to:

  • free night stay at the hyatt next weekend with my man – romantic dinner, posh room & USJ!
  • the connecting that the holidays always inspires – hearing from all the friends & family you think of all year…
  • seeing my mom get married next month!

ps – if you live in the kansai area and want a kitty – there is a super sweet tabby apparently abandoned in my office parking area!
