earthquakes are scary

i had the pleasure of watching the National Geographic special on the 1995 Kobe earthquake Saturday night. that little rocker killed about 6,000 people right here where i’m living – i’ve been to the memorial sites, but seeing the footage on that program was just really disturbing…i probably won’t sleep naked until summer. it would be me buried in the rubble, pulled out in front of the cameras in my birthday suit.

the icing on the cake was the next morning about 9:40am when our entire apartment started swaying and the whole building was making noises i hadn’t heard before. thankfully it was nothing here – just a big one on the other side of the island but it started me thinking – should i have my earthquake kit packed by the door? does anyone else in Japan? i remember asking one person who lived through the 1995 quake if they had a kit and they said yes, but totally forgot to grab it as they were fleeing their home…wonder if i would too.
